Northeastern University Toronto (NU Toronto) created the Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy and its Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Notice. The university’s AODA Lead is responsible for maintaining and updating these documents.

In FY2026-27, the university will create and publish its Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Policy.

The Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy and Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Notice are available to the public on this website. As new policies and other documents are developed, they will be added to this website.

Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

On receiving such a request, the university determines, in consultation with the person making the request, the appropriate format and/or communication supports it will then deliver.

Training

Develop training content.

In FY2026-27, NU Toronto will design customized training based on content from the Ontario Human Rights Commission. The customization will reflect the specific duties of the individuals receiving the training.

Create training schedule.

In FY2026-27, NU Toronto will create a schedule designed to deliver the training to all relevant members of the university community. The training will be provided at regular safety meetings unless alternative training times are required.

All applicable employees, volunteers, policy developers, and others providing goods or services on behalf of the university are trained on the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and Ontario Human Rights Code.

NU Toronto does not use volunteers to, and does not typically have persons other than employees, provide services on its behalf. In FY2026-27, the university will train all applicable employees and others on the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Retain record of attendance at training on each date.

The university currently tracks attendees at the safety meetings where most if not all AODA training will be provided. In FY2026-27, as the training is delivered, NU Toronto will retain a record of attendance at each session.

Information and Communications

If the university prepares emergency procedures, plans, or public safety information and makes the information available to the public, it provides the information in an accessible format or with appropriate communication supports, as soon as practicable, on request.

Requests for NU Toronto’s Emergency Operations Plan in an accessible format, and/or with appropriate communication supports, can be made at the NU Toronto Front Desk, 375 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON, or via other means detailed in the Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy.

The university makes its processes for receiving and responding to feedback accessible to disabled persons by providing or arranging for the provision of accessible formats and/or communication supports on request. The university periodically reviews its feedback processes and accessibility.

Regarding feedback, NU Toronto provides accessible formats and/or communications supports on request. See the Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy for how to make such a request. On receiving the request, the university determines, in consultation with the person making the request, the appropriate format and/or communication supports it will then deliver. The AODA Lead annually reviews the university’s feedback process and accessibility.

The university notifies the public about the availability of accessible formats and communication supports.

NU Toronto notifies the public about the availability of accessible formats and communication supports in its Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy, which is published on its website.

The university provides accessible formats and/or communication supports on request with respect to information that is publicly available, in a timely manner at a cost that is no more than the regular cost charged to other persons.

Regarding NU Toronto information that is publicly available, the university provides accessible formats and/or communications supports, in a timely manner, on request. See the Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy for how to make such a request. On receiving the request, the university determines, in consultation with the person making the request, the appropriate format and/or communication supports it will then deliver. In all instances, NU Toronto makes public information available to disabled persons in an accessible format and/or with communication supports at no additional cost.

Employment

Prepare and make available Workplace Emergency Response information for staff who need it.

NU Toronto’s Operations department has prepared, and makes available to staff, individualized emergency response information.

Recruitment: notify employees and the public regarding availability of accommodation.

NU Toronto’s Human Resources department provides notice of the availability of accommodations in its public job postings.

Notify selected applicants of the availability of accommodations on request for assessments or selection processes.

When applicants are selected to be interviewed, NU Toronto’s Human Resources department notifies them of the availability of accommodations for assessments or selection processes on request.

Notify successful applicants of policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.

When it makes offers of employment, NU Toronto notifies successful applicants of its policies for accommodation of employees with disabilities. A statement to this effect is communicated to the successful applicant by the Human Resources department.

Inform employees of policies regarding job accommodations.

All NU Toronto employees are annually directed to its policies regarding job accommodations. New employees receive the policies on hire.

Provide accessible formats and communication supports to employees for information they need to perform their jobs or that is generally available at work.

Regarding information that employees need to perform their jobs, as well as information that is generally available at work, NU Toronto makes all such information available to employees in an accessible format and/or with communication supports. The university responds to each such request by working with the employee to determine the appropriate format and/or communication supports.

Have a documented Individual Accommodation Plan process in place.

NU Toronto has a documented process in place for developing Individual Accommodation Plans (IAPs), such that employees are provided with IAPs as needed. These plans are developed and managed by the Human Resources department.

Create a return-to-work process containing all elements required by regulation.

NU Toronto’s Human Resources department has a return-to-work process containing all elements required by regulation. This process includes the use of IAPs as appropriate.

Performance management accounts for an employee’s accessibility needs.

When an employee has one or more accessibility needs, NU Toronto’s Human Resources department works with the employee’s manager to factor the need(s) into all relevant performance management.

Career development and the career advancement process considers accessibility needs.

When an employee has one or more accessibility needs, NU Toronto’s Human Resources department works with the employee’s manager to factor it/them into all relevant career development and career advancement processes.

Redeployment processes, if any, consider accessibility needs.

If NU Toronto seeks to engage in the redeployment of an employee, its Human Resources department considers any accessibility needs the employee may have.

Design of Public Spaces

Meet the Standards for the Design of Public Spaces when building or redeveloping public spaces.

When the university engages in redevelopment of its existing public spaces or builds new public spaces, its Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities department complies with the applicable accessibility requirements. In such circumstances, NU Toronto works with its contractors, designers, or others engaged in the project to commit to compliance with the applicable accessibility standards and to understand the university’s expectation that these standards are met.

Have procedures for preventative and emergency maintenance of accessible elements and procedures for dealing with temporary disruptions of accessible elements.

NU Toronto does not currently have accessible elements. Should the university ever create accessible elements, its Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities department will create relevant procedures for preventative and emergency maintenance, as well as the most-appropriate procedures for addressing temporary disruptions.

Customer Service

Create and maintain a policy governing the provision of goods, services, and facilities to persons with disabilities. The policy will be consistent with the principles set out in the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and deal with the use of assistive devices.

In FY2026-27, the university will publish its Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Policy that accomplishes this activity. The policy will be consistent with the principles set out in the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and deal with the use of assistive devices.

Notify all persons to whom the university provides goods, services, and facilities that the customer service policy is available on request. This notification should be given by posting the information on university premises or on its website.

In FY2026-27, the university will publish its Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Policy. NU Toronto will post the policy on its website so that all persons to whom the university provides goods, services, and facilities are aware of the policy and its contents.

Prepare a policy regarding the use of personal assistive devices, service animals, and support persons.

In FY2026-27, NU Toronto will achieve this activity by publishing a relevant policy or including the content in its Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Policy.

Prepare a policy on the steps to be taken in connection with a temporary disruption to provide notice of such disruption to customers with disabilities.

In FY2026-27, NU Toronto will achieve this activity by publishing a relevant policy or including the content in its Northeastern University Toronto Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Policy.

Provide training—to every member of the university community who deals with the public or other third parties on the university’s behalf, or who develops the university’s policies, practices, or procedures governing the provision of goods, services, and facilities—on the provision of goods and services to persons with disabilities. Training includes a review of the purposes of the AODA, the regulation requirements, how to interact and communicate with persons with disabilities, how to interact with persons who use assistive devices or service animals, how to use available assistive devices or equipment on university premises, and what to do if a person is having difficulty accessing the university’s goods or services.

In FY2026-27, NU Toronto will achieve this activity by designing and delivering such training to the identified audiences. Employees and all other necessary individuals will receive the required training during their orientation; on hire; or, if they are not an employee, before they commence providing services on behalf of the university. Employees will also receive training as needed when there are updates to the applicable legislation or to the university’s policies and practices. The Human Resources department is responsible for delivering and logging the training.

Prepare a customer service training document.

In FY2026-27, NU Toronto’s Human Resources department will achieve this activity.

Establish a feedback process and prepare a document describing this process and the actions that the university will take if a complaint is received about the way it provides goods, services, or facilities to persons with disabilities.

NU Toronto has created a feedback process as detailed in its Northeastern University Toronto Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy. In FY2026-27, the university will document the actions it will take if a complaint is received about the way it provides goods, services, or facilities to persons with disabilities.

Information about the university’s feedback process is readily available to the public.

Notify the persons to whom the university provides goods and services that the documents required under these customer service standards are available on request.

Accessibility Reports
